The first time I remember hearing my Authentic Voice, I was six years old playing in the Atlantic Ocean off the shores of Hollywood, Florida. We traveled often to Florida from Arizona for our summer vacations because my mother's family lived there. During our visits, we would take trips to the beach. Growing up in Arizona, I had learned to swim by the time I was five. Getting out into the ocean with its waves and sea life thrilled me!

One particular day while playing in the ocean, I must have moved away from my family because the next thing I knew, I couldn't get out of the waves. No one was around to help me. Every time I tried to surface for air, another wave would hit me and I'd go back under. After a few of those wallops, I started to feel dreamy from a lack of oxygen, but I was still fighting. At that moment, I remember a thought suddenly coming into my head. Like a little voice, it told me, "Andrea, stop fighting. Let the waves bring you to shore." So, I did. And, sure enough, the waves propelled me safely onto the beach.
